Dr. Shiming (Simon) Zhang
CTO, BigMath Corporation,
Chief Scientist, Data Intelligent Institute, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology
Dr. Shiming (Simon) Zhang, is CTO at Bigmath Corporation, and Chief Scientist at The Institute of Data Intelligent, China Academy of Science and Technology Development. He was a Principal Architecture and Data Scientist in Big Data Lab at Baidu Research China and Silicon Valley. Dr. Zhang is a leading AI scientist with extensive expertise and experience across machine learning algorithms and distributed computing systems. He devote his efforts to make ML & AI easy for everyone with the mission of building a unified data platform incorporating architecture innovations and hardware advances. He led to develop several high-performance analytics systems and large-scaled machine learning platform, such as the fastest distributed in-memory database -- OceanDB, MPP data warehouse for petabyte-scale data – Palo, distributed transactional database – TDB, hybrid machine learning platform incorporating with MXNet, CNTK, PaddlePaddle, TensorFlow -- OceanMind, distributed deep learning toolkit — BigDL, distributed graph database — BigGraph and scalable streaming analytics system — BigSQL/StreamSQL as well as deep analytics in database — DeepSQL. He has extensive experiences in knowledge graph, NLP, deep learning and cloud computing as well as FinTech, retail, and scientistic computing. He has been a senior researcher on big data analytic systems at Noah Ark Lab in Huawei Research since 2012. He has obtained his PhD from University of Hong Kong in 2011, Master from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Software in 2005. He has published more top academic paper (e.g., SIGMOD, VLDB, VLDB.J, TKDE, ICDE, SDM). His interests include distributed database system architecture, large-scale machine learning system and high-performance computing system (e.g., in-memory computation, RDMA, SDN), streaming analytic system for fast big data. He has served and contributed more PC committees (e.g., ICDM, SIGMOD, VLDB, TKDE). He has served and contributed more PC committees (e.g., ICDM, SIGMOD, VLDB, TKDE) and reviewer boards in open sources (e.g., Apache HBase, Hive, Impala, Hadoop, Ambari, Stinger, VoltDB).
