John Bensalhia talks to Google Cloud's Chee Keong Law about his forthcoming talk at Cloud Expo Asia Hong Kong 2017 on tackling digital disruptors

Is your business being disrupted?

That's the question posed by Google Cloud's Chee Keong Law at Cloud Expo Asia Hong Kong 2017. Chee Keong will be speaking at the event's Cloud Innovations Services & Applications sector. His talk is entitled 'Taking On Digital Disruptors - How Incumbents Are Rebuilding As Digital Platforms.'

“Large companies are being disrupted by smaller, agile digital natives,” says Chee Keong. “This session tells the story of how incumbents are remaking themselves into platform businesses using an API and Cloud-first approach.”

Chee Keong is responsible for Partnerships and Alliances for API Management at Google Cloud covering the Asia Pacific region. “I help companies use API Management to build digital businesses and platforms,” says Chee Keong. “I also serve as a council member at the Singapore Industrial Automation Association - a trade association for Singapore companies in the field of Automation, Robotics and IoT.”

Commenting on his session at the forthcoming Hong Kong 2017 event, Chee Keong says that platform business models have disrupted traditional business models, putting pressure on many traditional businesses. “This session covers the differences between a platform business model and traditional business models and why the platform model is succeeding.”

Chee Keong will give examples of how some traditional businesses have used platform models to their advantage, combining their existing strengths with platform leverage to succeed. “I will also reveal how these businesses transformed themselves and the story of their evolution and how other traditional businesses can apply these lessons.”

Chee Keong says that with respect to digital disruptors remaking themselves into platform businesses, technology plays a key role, which include Cloud and APIs. “However,” he adds. “There are other key ingredients which I will share during my talk - one of the reasons why you should attend my talk!”

Commenting on the key risks posed to large businesses by digital disruptors, Chee Keong says that “No business is too large to fail!”

“We have witnessed many Fortune 500 companies disappear because they did not respond to disruption quickly enough. Companies however, can turn digital to their advantage through adoption of Cloud and APIs.”

For more on how large businesses can effectively deal with the digital disruptors, come to Chee Keong's talk which is being held at Cloud Innovations Services & Applications at 1.30pm on 25th May 2017.
